This website is dedicated to all the wonderful " Cat Ladies " of the world, A special tribute to all of the " Cat Ladies " in Boston and its surrounding areas. These Cat Ladies volunteer their precious time, energy and personal resources to enhance the lives of Community cats, and the people in the community. A special Thanks to all the Postmasters, Colony Caretakers and neighbors who provide valuable feedback & cooperation. Kindness really goes a long way.
It takes a lot of dedication, self-discipline, sacrifices of personal time, energy, personal resources to take on the role of a Cat Rescuer. Not to mention the emotional aspects of it, the sadness felt when rescue targets are missed due to circumstances beyond self control. Outside elements like the weather, sometimes uncooperative neighbors, personal safety concerns.
I am a cat colony caretaker in the Dorchester Area. I had the pleasure to meet a veteran cat rescuer many years ago. She helped me get my cat babies spayed & neutered. I was later introduced to another kind and truly dedicated Trapper/Rescuer. She worked a regular job and volunteers most of her free time helping Community Cats, cat owners who cannot afford to get their pets Spayed or Neutered. She is skillful, goal oriented, persistent, truly passionate about helping these less fortunate cats. I consider her a " Cat Saint ".
I have the privilege to assist my mentor with cat rescues. We felt joyful and happy when we were able to achieve our target goals. We felt sad and lost sleep when we had to leave a kitten behind due to circumstances beyond our control. We shouted and smiled when we had a victorious cat saving day. We cried and sometimes cursed when we missed our targets. I recalled one particular instance of a kitten died in my hands while being rushed to the Animal Rescue Facility. I wish there was more that I could have done for a better outcome. I felt real sad and bad for not being able to get to the kitten sooner.
It's a roller coaster of feelings. Regardless of what happened, we get back out there to save more cats. We were driven by compassion ! We had one goal that is to enhance the lives of as many cats as possible. All adoptable cats will have a home, for those who are unfortunately not adoptable, they will receive necessary medical care, the proper vaccines to prevent diseases, spayed or neutered and be released back to where they were found. Most of these were released back to a place where a caretaker existed within the community.
My mentor had moved out of the state but the mission goes on !
So the next time someone ask what I plan on doing on the weekend. I'll tell them I plan on saving more cats with a smile.
